Did you know that the kitchen is one of the most popular rooms in a home? That means that if you have a kitchen that is on the smaller side, you might think that you’ll have to deal with a crowded space for most of the time. Luckily this is far from the truth. Here are some design tips to keep in mind when you are getting a smaller kitchen designed, or are looking for kitchen installations for more compact spaces.

Keep space front of mind
If you have a small kitchen, keep in mind that if you don’t have drawers that make accessing your items easy, you’ll only use them to store things away. Get drawers that are designed so that their use is maximised.

Optimise your storage
There are various kitchen cabinet solutions that are perfect for smaller kitchens. For example, you can get a corner storage with hinged doors, that make accessing the items stored in it a breeze. You can even fit rotating shelves in the cabinet, so that you don’t have to reach deep inside.

If you are designing a kitchen from scratch in a smaller space, you should also think about making your storage cabinets higher, so that you’ll be able to fit more items in them. Just keep in mind to store them in such a way that when you need them, you won’t struggle.

You don’t have to sacrifice coziness for space
Just because it’s a small kitchen, doesn’t mean that it should be completely utilitarian. Keep in mind that you can still bring your personal touches to a kitchen, that will make working in it a pleasure, and not a chore. For example, you can add a butcher block to your countertops, maximising your preparation area, but will still have it looking great.

Make the finishes your own
When designing for smaller spaces you’ll often have to make choices that seem counterintuitive. For example, your only choice to fit your sink might be off centre from a window. This is not the end of the world, and in fact, if you use a professional kitchen design team like ours, you will have access to a professional design solution that will make the eccentricities of your kitchen look incredible.
